ISSUES

Working to grow our shared values and create positive change for hard-working Missouri families.
Healthcare

Quality, accessible, and affordable healthcare is every Missourian’s right. However, every year Missouri families must make increasingly difficult decisions for how they prioritize spending on prescription drugs and medical bills; over the basic costs of living. Further, some can barely afford the medical bill, much less the prescription!

I will diligently work to expand healthcare access for every person in District 9; and produce and co-sponsor Bills that support healthcare; most especially in Rural areas: This includes Helipads, strategically placed; CPR education, and retaining hospitals.

As your state representative, I’ll support common sense measures, so no Missourian is forced to choose between a decent job and keeping their healthcare.

Education

I have called for a State Audit upon Missouri Western State University (MWSU); for transparency over the past three years. I am aghast over the decisions made by the former President Wilson, to eliminate departments, majors, professors, and staff. Many students chose to attend MWSU, in the Fall 2019 early commitment ~ forgoing scholarships offered by other universities or higher learning institutions; only to learn in the late Spring 2020, their MWSU major was eliminated. I will do all I can to correct this educational fumble; and hold those responsible, accountable.

Every child in District 9 should have access to free, safe, quality education regardless of their zip code. As your state representative, I will work to strengthen our schools, and fully fund our commitment to our students, so they may compete globally.

I will diligently work to bridge the Digital Divide. NO student should have to sit in their car at a school parking lot, or fast-food place; just to access free WiFi, because the cost of internet access is more than they can afford. A good healthy safe, learning environment is imperative for successful student outcomes.

I will support universal early childhood education, because investing in our children from an early age is the best way for us to invest in our future. I will also support investment in higher education and workforce training, to ensure everyone in District 9, have the opportunity to gain the skills to compete in our economy.

Jobs

A strong economy is one that works for everyone. As your state representative, I will work to build our economy—our workers—for the wages, benefits, and protections they deserve. I’ll support investments in educational opportunities; and produce Bills that can make it easier for good paying jobs to be made available in District 9.

I patronize local business, because local business supports the community when times are difficult. I will work for policies that support local businesses who provide good jobs and keep our economy growing. I’ll work to bring new businesses here that want to capitalize on our skilled Missouri workforce, and quality of life. Please know; I will always put workers’ interests before the special interests of large corporations... always.

Public Safety

I will support legislature that supports tough sentences for Stray Bullets, such as those in Drive-By Shootings. I will produce Bills that expand on the Child Fatality Review. Stiff penalties for Stray Bullets that kill innocent children; Life or death for a Child Homicide.

Central to the role of government is to fairly enforce the law, and to provide protection for its people. I will support our law enforcement officers, while also demanding immediate accountability when they overreach and/or are abusing their position with brutality, intimidation, fear; racial, ethnic, and/or religious injustices.

I will support tough sentences for violent criminals, while also seeking ways to reduce our prison population and reintegrate folks into society after they have served their time. I’ll also support drug treatment courts and diversion programs that find alternative ways to punish and rehabilitate non-violent criminals without simply throwing them in prison.

No matter where you live in Missouri, the root causes of crime are the same: a lack of educational and work opportunities, along with drug addiction and poverty. Addressing these basic issues must always be central in any conversation about crime.

Farms

Agriculture is the backbone of Missouri, and at the heart of it are our family farms—where many of us call home and why generations before us settled here. I support: Generational Ownership; the RELIEF for Producers Act; protecting U.S. agriculture from African swine fever (ASF) and other foreign animal diseases; the fiscal year 2021 agriculture Spending Bill, to include critical funding to ensure animal pests and diseases do not enter the USA; Rural Healthcare. I support Farmers in the areas of the Missouri River (Flooding, Eminent Domain, Willing Sellers Program, Property Acquisition, Landowners' Rights/Property Rights).

Passing down the family farm to future generations is becoming increasingly challenging. I will work to preserve the family farm.

Last year, a Bill was passed; it allowed taking control from local communities to regulate certain large feeding operations known as CAFOs. This allows large scale operations to buy up local farms, push the production limits of the land, and pollute our communities’ treasured landscape without local oversight. I will not let District 9 farmers be bullied by larger corporations!

As your state representative, I will advocate for District 9 to protect local control, as they know their land and crop better than anyone else.

I will advocate for sales rate caps on farm equipment.

I will also submit legislation that provides a pathway for older farmers to transition into a healthy retirement.

Local Control

During this Pandemic, it is ever more important to do what is best for District 9 on a local level! Government works best when it is closer to the people it serves. I respect the fabric of our local communities and trust them to know best when it comes to overcoming the challenges they face.

In Missouri, we have seen many decisions influenced by special interests, circumventing the will of local communities on local issues by preempting local ordinances with state law or by diluting local opposition to matters by including state-wide votes.

I will always do what is best for District 9, first and foremost. I will work with local Mayors to maintain and enforce local ordinances, as the people have decided.

Fiscal Responsibility

I believe in the saying “show me your budget, and I’ll show you your values.” Our state’s budget serves as a moral contract with our citizens. Every year, it is up to the state government to allocate the tax dollars you pay to maintain and improve our quality of living.

But while our schools are underfunded, our healthcare costs are on the rise while our taxes increase, and we’re borrowing money to pay for our crumbling roads and bridges, corporations in Missouri are receiving tax cuts and incentive packages.

We simply should not be handing out money to corporations hoping that prosperity will trickle down. As your state rep, I will be a careful steward of your tax dollars in Jefferson City.

I believe you and your family are the economic drivers of our state. Our budget should reflect that by investing in the things that will improve you and your family’s life, rather than lining the pockets of big businesses.

Reproductive Rights

As your state representative, I will stand with women towards protecting their Healthcare Rights.

As your state representative, a woman, and a mother; I will protect a woman's reproductive rights in District 9! I will visit District 9's female population, and get input on wants and needs to cover this important issue. I have taught rural CPR, and instructed fetal development, and reproduction. Unfortunately in Missouri, Mothers die from childbirth in numbers far greater than the rest of the industrialized world, and instead of promoting healthcare, Missouri legislators have placed burdensome restrictions on it.

Transparency and Ethics

Without transparency; there is no trust. Faith in government and the political process is the cornerstone of a functioning democracy. As your state representative, I’ll fight to shine a light on those who conceal their donors and influence our politics with dark money.

In 2018, Missourians overwhelmingly voted in favor of Amendment 1, known as CLEAN MO. Certain politicians are heavily campaigning to overturn it. It capped contributions and limited the way money could move in and out of campaign coffers. Special interests have continued to find loopholes around these laws, pushing ‘dark money’ further into the political process. The people have spoken via democracy in their vote, I will work hard for the people in District 9!

I demand big state business that impacts the lives of people in District 9, be transparent!

Nondiscrimination

Every year for the past two decades, the Missouri Non-Discrimination Act (MONA) has been filed, only to be blocked. MONA would allow basic protections to our LGBTQ community by adding sexual orientation and gender identity to Missouri’s Human Rights Act. High School teens are killing themselves over this kind of discrimination; and suicide is contagious across all sexes.

People in District 9 should not have to fear losing their jobs or being denied housing for who they love—discrimination that is currently completely legal in our state.

As your state representative, I will work for a District 9, that treats equal ~ people; regardless of race, religion, gender, age or sexual orientation, and protects all people from discrimination.
