Addressing Mental Health

A Path to Recovery

In the heart of Missouri, there's a struggle that too often remains unseen. It's the battle fought by individuals and families confronting mental health disorders and addiction. These challenges can't be faced alone, and that's why I'm committed to addressing this critical issue.

Medicaid Reimbursement Parity

To begin this journey, we must ensure that those who need help can get it. I'll work to raise Medicaid reimbursement rates for mental health and addiction treatment services to be on par with physical healthcare services. By doing this, we'll incentivize more providers and agencies to serve rural areas and create an environment where seeking help is a viable option.

Expanding Medicaid

However, reimbursement rates alone won't be enough. I'll work to expand Medicaid, making it accessible to more low-income individuals and families. This will be a vital step towards breaking down barriers to mental health services.

Private Insurance Accountability

Private insurers must be held accountable for their coverage. I'll work to ensure they provide equal access to mental health services, leaving no disparities unaddressed.

Building Careers and Communities

One essential aspect of our mission is to empower the next generation of mental health professionals. I'll work to establish state-funded scholarship and grant programs, encouraging individuals to pursue careers in mental health and addiction treatment and expanding the number of providers available to serve rural and other disadvantaged areas.

Tax Incentives for Providers

To reinforce this effort, I'll introduce tax incentives for mental health and addiction treatment providers working in these underserved areas. By making it more appealing for them to serve areas with the greatest need, we'll bolster community support systems for those who need it most.

Together, we can break the stigma, transform lives, and build a healthier, more vibrant Missouri.
